Acamas Awarded Latest Project With Unique Approach to Stormwater Design

Jacksonville, FL – Acamas Civil Engineering has been hired to provide civil engineering and permitting of a new mixed-use shopping center in St. Augustine, Florida. The project includes 27,000 SF of new retail space for restaurants and shopping, as well as 11,000 SF of office and warehouse storage space. Groundbreaking on this new project is anticipated in the fall of this year.

Land constraints on this project required the use of an innovative approach to the stormwater management system design. Rather than design the site with an independent stormwater pond, Acamas has instead designed a regional stormwater system that combines the volume requirements of adjacent developments with the new shopping center’s stormwater volumes. By designing a master pond system to serve multiple projects, Acamas has reduced the land demands for stormwater management for both the new development, as well as the adjacent properties.

Acamas was selected for this project based on the firm’s extensive experience in stormwater management design. The ability of Acamas to approach the stormwater design with a creative, out-of-the box solution, brought increased value to both the client and the adjacent property owners.

“This project challenged us to think regionally in order to design a solution for a single development site. Our staff was able to meet multiple agency design requirements and satisfy multiple owner demands with the design of a single, master-planned drainage system for this commercial corridor to St. Augustine. We are excited about seeing this shopping center come out of the ground in the next few months, but equally excited about the behind-the-scenes engineering solutions that allowed the project to happen, that go unnoticed by the general public.”
